Mudroom Makeover: What Stage Is This? Oh Yeah. Five

Once upon a time, I was making over my mudroom. Then my decorating ADD kicked in, and I moved on to other projects in different rooms. A recent purchase has jump-started the mudroom makeover, and I thought I'd share it with you today.

If you want to see what changes have already taken place, you can read all about it here. This is how things are looking today.

Pretty much the way I left it back in July. I did hang the basket I bought from Donna at Horton's Flea Market.  I thought it would serve as a good spot for single socks to reunite with a partner.

I also added a little alabaster lamp. I bought it on my Springfield Antiques road trip in June for ten bucks. It came with a hideous shade (circa 1984) that I purposefully left behind. Finding a new shade to fit was a much more difficult task than I expected. I was relieved to finally find a shade that fits and looks pretty cute, too.

While the sock depot and cute lamp are nice, what I really needed was a fabric skirt to go around the counter and hide the giant bin o' dog food underneath it.

Well, I finally made up my mind the other day and purchased some fabric. I went with Waverly's Ballad Bouquet in robin's egg.

I was tempted by a more trendy, geometric fabric, but in the end, decided that the shabby chic, vintage look complements the room better. I think it fits in nicely with the basket and the lamp...

and the chippy chalkboard on the opposite wall...

Now I just need to find someone to sew the skirt for me. Be on the lookout for the big reveal  in, oh, I don't know.... about 6 months?

So, what's your decorating motto? Hurry up and get 'er done OR Slow and steady someday it will be ready?

  1. I need a mudroom makeover too. I just need to start with paint and go from there. I can't sew either.

  4. The fabric is pretty, but the chalkboard stole my heart! ;)

BTW, I just realized that you must live close!! I was a vendor at Horton's (my first real show, so nothing to be too proud of) and I will be there for their Christmas Market. If you're there, look me up!

  5. I have so many projects that get half done and I move on... I get that. Is it ADD? lol I never considered that!

  7. I love your color combination in there. That is the prettiest shade of blue against that brown. Your fabric skirt will be a nice addition (once it's done). Ha! I also love that sweet little lamp in there. I wish I had a nice big laundry room/ mudroom like that!

  8. I really love that you went with that pretty fabric choice instead of a trendy geometric that everyone seems to be choosing nowadays - it will look beautiful when it's done.
I guess I'm a slow and steady too. Dabble in this room, dabble in that room. But I think that's what keeps me interested though too - otherwise each room would be done in a flash and then what? :)

  9. I also have decorating ADD. I wish I could finish a room and move on, but instead every room is always "in process". I think your mudroom is proceeding nicely.

  15. Oh, I know what you mean! It's amazing how life gets busy and sometimes you don't have much time for anything.

You always make me laugh... love your positive attitude! :-)

I'm sorry I'm missing some of your posts lately. But I'm trying to spend very little time in front of the computer. I have too much pain if I stay here for too long. So, I'm trying to take it easy now, since there's only 4 weeks to go. :-)

    Wishing you a blessed weekend.

  18. Persistence is a fine virtue...I love your fabric and skirt idea. I have a skirt under the sink instead of doors in my laundry room. It's a great little detail. XO, Mona

  23. Love the fabric...you are right...it does fit the room. So slow and steady will not work for me. I was to see it finished and up...selfishly!

Have yet to get those riding boots to the lamp converter man, so I am right there with you!

We are the turtles from the Comcast commercials.... we are the "Slowskis" Carolyn!

Love the new fabric. It pulls the room together perfectly. Wish I could sew as I would offer to do it for you. :)
