HomeGoods and Bads

You know what is so cool about HomeGoods?

Finding awesome pillows at a great price... like these black and white beauties my mom brought home.

You know what's not cool about HomeGoods? Finding these...

Pillows in the Magnolia Gootar fabric. This is the fabric I stalked for months, paid a pretty penny for, and just sent to the workroom for unique, one-of-a-kind, custom pillows.

Oh, the shock and horror I experienced when I saw these pillows on the HG shelf for a fraction of what I paid! Guess my pillows are no longer custom or unique :(

Here is the ottoman I had just gotten reupholstered in the same fabric.

Still waiting for my "custom" pillow :)

Well, I snatched up the only pair of Magnolia Gootar pillows at my local HG store. (Hope they don't get any more in.) What can I say? They were a bargain. And I think they'll look nice on my future wingback dining chairs.

The insanity continued when my mom and I were perusing the clearance shelves. My mother spotted a bowl exactly like the one on her kitchen table.

The problem: My mom bought her bowl in Turkey for over $100...

And, there it was on the HomeGoods clearance shelf for $29.99.

So, before you pick up any pottery on your next trip to Italy or Spain, you might want to check out your local HomeGoods first.

I found this little Italian dish for a steal :)

(The opinions expressed in this post are my own. HomeGoods did not pay me. But, I wish they had.)

  1. Wow, Is that sad or what? I know I had bought 2 sofa, made in Italy pillows for 150.00 each, and then went to HG and saw some all most the same for 29.99 ..not exactly the same but so close..It broke my heart! Never again..HG first..

  3. I love the things you found at HG! I sure wish I had one near-by, but my closest store is over 4 hours away.

  4. I hate that too........thats pretty amazing. I have only been a few times as the one here is not around the corner but honestly it appears very mundane with the same things, very little excited me and I assure you I saw nothing like those goodies there (probably get snatched up quickly)!

  5. What a shame! I've only been to Homegoods twice and I have to hold back on going more!! Recently I was in Pottery Barn and I kept saying to myself, "Homegoods would have this at a better price." There is just no comparison. I love the Italian pedestal plate you found. Gorgeous!!

  7. I have had that same thing happen a couple of times. Bought something full price(or even sale priced) and a few weeks/months later found it at HGoods for a fraction of what I paid. It give you kind of a clutch in the tummy when that happens, doesn't it? Love your pillows AND your ottoman though...no matter what the cost- xo Diana

  8. Oh, I hate to hear that you paid so much for custom pillows only to find them there for so much less. I know that let the air out of your balloon. I love the pattern and the soft colors. Your ottoman is darling! I guess it's good that I don't travel to extravagant places then. I don't have to worry about being tempted. I'll just shop @ Home Goods 15 minutes from my house!

  9. Jeez...I know what you are talking about...that's why I like to swing by Home Goods whenever I can. Great imported pottery. I thought mine was pretty good and then I went to the one in Irvine, California and they have all sorts of designer clothing too...like Dolce and Gabbana, Kate Spade, etc.

  11. So I think I've come to the conclusion that I have a crappy HomeGoods. I can find things there every now and then, but mostly I walk away empty handed.

Great scores though! You can never have too many pillows.

  12. Don't have Home Goods here in Canada - but we have Home Sense which sounds the same - always finding things that I paid way too much for at another store. Frustrating! But if you weren't looking for that fabric, the pillows would never have been there.

  13. Yes, HomeGoods is unbelievable..I have 4 of them in a 20 mile radius and it is worth going there at least once a week!..I just bought a great Drexel Heritage lamp there...Beautiful pillows..!!

  14. Some great pillows there. That's kind of sad about them being on the retail shelf. They will still look beautiful in your home though and now you just picked up a few more for less $. Great find!

  15. Yikes. Yeah, that kind of takes the wind out of your sails :(
On a brighter note, your Homegoods seems to be a gold mine for good stuff.

  20. I love HomeGoods! I was there just the other day but actually didn't find anything...that was a first! I was looking for a small white mirror (they only had large ones) and a white and gray bathroom rug. However, I did find a pair of great shoes in the TJ Maxx section. ;-)

  21. I know how you feel! I've come across a few things myself in Canada at Homesense all at a fraction of what I paid. It really takes away from the special pieces you find on holiday, to see 5 of them on clearance in your own hometown.

  22. Its too bad about the pillows...they are beautiful though!

  23. The HG's near me sucks. They never have anything so I have to trek out to the one 20 minutes away to score. I love that fabric and how you are using it in your LR. So pretty.
