Friendly Places: Home Tour #6

Last weekend I attended my 20 year (gulp!) college reunion, and let me tell you it was so much fun!

This is how it went down.

I spent the days before the reunion trying to make myself look 20 years younger.

I've spent the days since the reunion trying to recover from acting like I was 20 years younger.

I have lots of house projects and blogging to catch up on, but I figured today would be a perfect day for the next stop on our "Friendly Places" home tour.

This is a home that is so special to me, because two of my favorite people on the planet live here. In fact, I owe my life to them. They're my mom and dad.

Come on in...

My parents built this house 8 years ago, when they were ready for a lifestyle change.

The house is located on a golf course, and has a smaller yard to maintain. It also has a very open floor plan, which is a departure from the Colonial home in which they previously lived.

My mother's table always looks pretty.

Can you tell that my father is in the book business?

I love my mom's collection of blue and white china. The chest is a family heirloom. I'll be arm wrestling my siblings for that someday.

My siblings and I refer to the den as the "red rum"... which is spoken in a creepy voice a la The Shining.

My mom's collection of hand carved Santas fits in perfectly with the room's color scheme.

This lovely vase once resided in the Lincoln White House. The story is a bit fuzzy on how it ended up in our family, but apparently, Mrs. Lincoln paid for her hat and dress collection with items from the White House. Another relative has White House furniture that was originally offered to my mother in the '60s, but that she turned down. It didn't go with her avocado green color scheme.

She will never live that down.

A cozy guest room above, and the blue and white master below.

Inside this cabinet is another of my favorites.

I love this coffee set. I think it would look perfect in my dining room. Just sayin'.

A view from the backyard...

Hope you enjoyed the tour! If you want to see the other "friendly places" I've featured, check them out here.

  5. Aaahhh, yes, My Pretty!!! I understand that the college reunion weekend was sort of "Moms Gone Wild". Soooo glad you gals had such a great time and rekindled such special relationships. Heard you showed the current sorority girls how to party and enjoy those forever friends. I love your parents' home. I could move right in. We all know where you got your great style!

  6. As one of the ladies who joined Carolyn at our 20th college reunion, I have to set the record straight. Carolyn looks even better today than she did then. That's why her nickname was, and continues to be, Goddess. So don't believe that nonsense of working to look 20 years younger. Love you Goddess!

  7. Carolyn, their home is just lovely. I see she likes the same colors I do. Love the master bedroom with that beautiful window and the greenery outside.
