$15 Mirror Makeover

Hey there! Hope your week is off to a great start!

School's out for summer (Can you hear Alice Cooper?) on Thursday, so I'm trying to get lots done before then. I am thrilled to be working on some client projects, which I'll fill you in on soon.

In the meantime, I thought I'd share a simple mirror makeover I did last summer but haven't blogged about yet. Because I am so on top of things :)

Our guest bedroom has a small entryway before it opens into the larger room. I'd call it a vestibule, but that sounds much fancier than it actually is. There is a closet on one wall, and I wanted to put a bench and mirror against the other wall. I wanted a full-length mirror, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money.

I found this large, heavy mirror at a local thrift store. It was part of a bedroom furniture set that the shop owner was refinishing. She agreed to sell me just the mirror for $15.

It was a bit scratched up and not very attractive, but I liked the shape and knew I could make it pretty.

The makeover began with a coat of Annie Sloan chalk paint in Old White that I had in my stash.

I then dry-brushed AS French Gray over it, lightly sanded the edges for a distressed look and sparingly applied dark wax.

And, now it hangs in my guest room.

There you have it! Easy and inexpensive. My kind of project.

Have a super Tuesday :)

  3. I want that mirror! Love how it's nearly full size (without being all lame and strictly rectangle like all my previous full sizes). (ps. found you on houseblogging)
