Shopping From Home

Last week I went looking for some vintage pieces to accessorize our guestroom. I've been sloooowwwly working on giving the guestroom a French, feminine vibe to tie in with the French provincial furniture my grandmother gave me.

Here's a little peak at what I found...

This rug had just the right colors... mostly ivory and pale pink... with a bit of blue and green. I flipped it over and am using the "wrong" side. I like the look of the stitching on this side.

I also found this portrait of a lovely lady. Again, the colors were perfect, and there's something about the woman that I really like.

Maybe I like this woman so much because she's my sweet 94 year old Nana. You see, I found these little treasures while "shopping" in my parents' attic. That's the best kind of shopping, since everything is FREE!

I shopped around my own house as well, and decided this tole tray would move in with the guests too.

Have you gone "shopping" in someone's attic or even in your own home? I'd love to know what you found!

Very Pinteresting: Stair Runners

Now that the carpet has been ripped out to make room for hardwoods, I need to choose some carpet runners for the stairways and upstairs hall. As much as I'd love to leave the wood exposed in all it's glory, I just know it won't be long before lots of foot traffic scuffs them up.  Not to mention the noise factor. Have I told you how LOUD my boys are?  Good heavens, it sounds like a herd of elephants lives upstairs.

I turned to Pinterest for some inspiration, and here's a look at what I found...

This looks like it could be a good dirt-hider!

Pretty, but not practical for this family. I actually really like the rug by the door.

Can't go wrong with neutral stripes.

Love this one!!

Personally I couldn't commit to the green, but I still think it's pretty cool.

So... do you have stair runners?  What's your preference... plush, natural fiber, striped, geometric? I'd love to know!
