Puppy Love

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! My husband and I were both down for the count with fevers and congestion and crud on Christmas Eve, but thankfully, we were able to rally and enjoy Christmas Day with the family.

We had a new friend join us for Christmas this year. Actually, he came a couple of weeks before Christmas.

This is Manti. (Named after Notre Dame linebacker, Manti Te'o). He and his litter mates were found dumped on the side of a road, and were saved by Pals for Paws rescue.

Every Saturday Pals for Paws brings their adoptable animals to our local Petco. And, for the past few Saturdays, the kids and I have gone to Petco. Just to visit the doggies. Not to get one. Not until Spring. Because it will be much easier to house train a dog in the Spring. And that is the practical thing to do.

Uh huh. Sure. One look at that face, and I was a goner.

Pals called him a "mixed-up mutt." Obviously, he's got german shepherd in him, and probably some lab. Whatever else is anyone's guess.

We love our mixed-up mutt, Manti, and can't imagine not having him in our family. Even if we have to spend more time outside on these cold, snowy winter days :)

If you are thinking about adopting a new pet, please consider adopting from a local rescue organization. There are so many great animals in need of loving homes, and the rescues work tirelessly to save as many as they can.

  1. What a cutie! I had to email you because we had a dog that looked JUST like him as a puppy! Email me and I'd be happy to send you the pictures of what he looks like now! Watch out, he will be a big boy! Thank you for adopting and saving this valuable life, AND for highlighting the importance of doing so on your blog. Bravo to you and your family, and enjoy the crazy wonderfulness of a puppy!

  3. Carolyn, How could ANYONE resist that face? I love the way his eyes are kind of downturned and give him that slightly sad look. SOOOOO cute! xo Diana

  4. He is absolutely adorable and I thank you so very much for adopting a homeless animal instead of buying from a pet store or breeder. Congrats to you and your new family member!

  6. He is SO cute!!! You know, I just can't wrap my mind around how othes believe a baby animal is "disposable", and I'm glad I can't. Because then I would be thinking like that person! We rescued an abandoned cat 6 years ago (Ben), and he sleeps with me every night. Well, he sleeps with both my husband and myself, but my husband goes from the bed, to the sofa, depending on how his back is feeling (bad back!), lol! And, last year, we adopted a cat from C.A.R.M.A., which is a no kill, cat rescue organization.

  10. He is adorable.. we have a ~Stray-Doodle~ of our own who stole our hearts this summer... we were SO curious to what he was we bought the genetic kit at Pet-Co, did the mouth swab thing and then 20 days later found out.. it was VERY cool.. FYI.. you would never guess what sort of dog that is part St. Brenard, part Chow and part terrier will look like! :)
