This Is For The Birds

Lately I've been feathering my nest with birds.  I've had a few feathered friends around for a while, like these...

and this one, who was decapitated on 3 separate occasions before I finally moved him to the safety of the living room...

And then there are the birds on my tea towel...

A simple collection, just a spattering of the species, but nothing that screams "crazy bird lady lives here!"

But recently I'm finding myself inexplicably drawn to the birds.

I picked up this guy at the consignment store the other day. He caught my fancy, and when can you find an original work of art for 18 bucks? I figured I could spruce up the frame and find a perch for him.

Then I was in the bookstore and spotted this book of audubon prints on clearance.

I've been considering a wall of botanicals, but then I saw this and thought I could switch gears. These are some of my favorite images from the collection...

I've also really been digging bird fabrics lately. This bedroom by designer Lori Tippins is one of my all-time favorites.

I loved the Bennison fabric she used.

Nina Campbell has some amazing fabrics and wall coverings featuring swans...

and parrots...

and other species I cannot be expected to identify because I am not a crazy bird lady!

I love this one, "Birdcage Walk"...

Here's a close-up...

and in another color way...

Is it me or are birds landing everywhere these days? What do you think about decorating with birds? Is it for the birds? Or is what's good for the goose, good for the gander?

P.S. As I was typing up this post, little did I know there was bird carnage taking place in our backyard. Our labrador retriever had gotten her paws on a robin's nest. There is a lone survivor, and my husband is out there trying to rescue it while being dive-bombed by some very angry birds. Oh, the irony!

  1. Oh, me you better hand him a helmet! Love all these bird images and what a deal on those prints that can be framed. That would make such a great gallery wall. Love the art you picked up, too.
